CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story broke records when it first premiered on October 21. Over 4.5 million people watched the movie, making it the highest rated cable movie of 2013 and launching it to the top as VH1’s most watched original movie of all time.
Whether you were a young girl in the 90s and sang along to every verse as if you were Chilli on stage at the Grammys or whether you don’t even have the slightest idea of who they are, we highly recommend this inspiring movie. TLC has an amazing and touching story that is worth learning about and is definitely worth sharing.
The trio, who have several Grammy awards (among other titles and awards), had a unique chemistry that caught the attention of millions. With Chilli’s classic R & B voice, T-Boz’s low and sultry tone, and Left Eye’s raps, it’s no wonder that they became the second bestselling female group of all time (behind the Spice Girls).
All of their trials and struggles were identified in this biopic, including the truth behind their bankruptcy, which undoubtedly and controversially threw their record label owner, Pebbles, under the bus. Also featured in the film is T-Boz’s struggle with Sickle Cell, Chilli’s relationship issues with producer Dallas Austin and her subsequent abortion, and the many escapades of Lisa Lopes.
Of course the movie goes as far as Lisa’s tragic death, but it does end with a gleam of hope, as T-Boz and Chilli record their newest single, Meant to Be, honoring the group as a whole and remembering Lisa as the fun, quirky, and creative member of TLC.
